Erith Town vs Rusthall – Preview

Stanmore Stadium hosts a South Eastern Counties Football League Challenge Cup match when Erith Town entertain Rusthall on Tuesday evening.

On Saturday, Adam Woodward’s Dockers continued on the Road to Wembley with a two-nil win in the F.A. Vase at Athletic Newham. James Dyer and Ladic Melconian scored the goals to take them into the last thirty-two, along with fellow SCEFL teams Deal Town and Holmesdale.

They are also having an excellent league campaign and, although in fourth place, they are only five points behind league leaders Faversham Town with a game in hand.

Their guests Rusthall are in the lower half of the table having won four, drawn three and lost eleven. Their game with Glebe on Saturday was abandoned due to fog with thirteen minutes remaining. The scores were level at the time after Jamie Philpot had given the visitors the lead, but Luke Adams equalised three minutes before half time.

Both Erith and Rusthall received byes in the first round, before hosting division one sides in round two. Erith defeated Tooting Bec three-one courtesy of early goals by Ollie Milton and James Dyer before Henry Arnold’s last minute finish ensured their progress. Hayden Velvick scored a hat-trick in the last six minutes after Ryan Styles had opened the scoring just before half-time.

That set-up the third round tie in Thamesmead.
