Erith Town vs Chatham Town – Preview

On Saturday, Erith Town host Chatham Town in a mouth watering South East Counties Football League Premier Division fixture.

Both teams won on Wednesday evening and will be looking to continue their good form. The Dockers claimed a well deserved three points at Welling Town. Michael Power scored the winner from close range after Welling’s Jacob Kalonda had cancelled out Fred Obasa’s opener.

It was a successful evening for Scott Lindsay’s Chatham team too as their seven-two victory at Canterbury City propelled them to the top of the table. They were four-nil up at half time courtesy of a brace from Jack Evans and further goals by Matt Bodkin and Michael Dalton. Adam Woollcott pulled one back immediately after the break before Dan Bradshaw scored for the Chats. Enoch Soganile pulled another back but Evans completed his hat-trick and Ryan Hayes finished off the scoring.

Other than their three-two defeat at home to Tunbridge Wells, the only points that they have dropped this season, they have been scoring goals for fun. Before their game with Canterbury, they beat AFC Croydon Athletic eight-three following a five-one win at Beckenham Town. All in all they have scored forty-eight goals in nine league games.

Unsurprisingly, they have three of the league’s top six goalscorers. Evans has twelve, Bradshaw ten and Hayes eight. The Dockers’ leading scorer is Steadman Callender, one goal back with seven.

Erith’s manager Adam Woodward gave a debut to sixteen year old centre back Tom Ash at Welling. They have lost one of their last five, three-one at Beckenham Town. Tower Hamlets were beaten five-nil by them and they shared the points away to Bearsted and at home to Fisher.

Although Chatham will start as firm favourites, being top of the league can sometimes bring its own pressures so Erith will go into the game in the belief that they can upset the odds..
