Erith Town v Corinthian preview

On Monday evening Erith Town host Corinthian in a South East Counties Football League Premier Division fixture.

Clubs at this level tend to play a lot of cup games at this time of the season so the league has a topsy turvy look to it. Some teams have already played eleven games whilst Erith have only played seven.

In those seven games they have won ons, drawn three and lost three whilst contesting knock-out tournament games.

Meanwhile Corinthian are in the pack chasing Beckenham Town at the top of the league having won seven and drawn two of the ten matches that they have played.

Part of the reason that the Dockers are so far behind in their league games is that they equalled a club record of best ever F.A. Cup run having reached the second qualifying round  Having already seen off Hassocks, Loxwood and Spelthorne Sports they travelled to Bostik League Premier Division Haringey Borough where they were beaten 2-0.

Last week they progressed in the London Senior Cup when they defeated last season’s runners up, and the previous season’s winners Cray Valley PM. On Saturday they started their F.A. Vase campaign with a come from behind win at Bedfont and Feltham with goals by Adrian Stone and Steadman Callendar.

Corinthian got as far as the first preliminary round of the F.A. Cup where they held Horsham to a 1-1 draw before losing the replay. Their F.A. Vase campaign also started yesterday with a 3-2 victory over Deal Town in a very eventful match.

At half time they were one down but Deal had a man sent off early in the second period. Shaun Brown equalised on the hour mark and Kameron Gyearbour put Corinthian ahead. When Deal levelled in the 90th minute it looked as though the game was destined for extra time but Jack Billings grabbed the winner deep into stoppage time.
