Erith & Belvedere vs Corinthian – Preview

While Corinthian were losing a league game for the first time in just under a year on Saturday, Erith and Belvedere claimed their first Southern Counties East Football League victory in 2020.

On the road, Sheppey United scored two injury time goals to stun Corinthian after Emmanuel Oloyede’s hat-trick had put the Hoops three-two up. Jack Midson’s winner for the Ites came after eleven minutes of stoppage time.

It was much more straight-forward for the Deres against Canterbury City at Park View Road. In the twentieth minute Jamie Humphris scored his first goal for the club since moving from Beckenham Town and Guyliano Mpungi scored the crucial second fifteen minutes from time. Henry Dasofunjo put the icing on the cake with a last minute third goal.

That win, replicating their cup form, helped Erith and Belvedere to leapfrog Canterbury into nineteenth place in the league in the knowledge that another another victory could propel them up the table.

Although no longer able to boast a one hundred percent record, Corinthian are still in third place behind free scoring Chatham Town on goal difference and both are behind the only remaining unbeaten team, Tunbridge Wells.

The last time that the two teams met was in early March at Gay Dawn Farm when Corinthian won ten-nil. Oloyede, Andres Tobon, Chris Kinnear and Ryan Sawyer each scored a brace eleven days before Covid-19 brought the season to a premature end.
