Erith & Belvedere v Rusthall preview

Southern Counties East Football League leaders Erith and Belvedere entertain Rusthall on Saturday.

Tony Beckingham’s Deres got off to a flyer, winning their first eleven before Tunbridge Wells ended the run with a convincing victory at Park View Road.

Last weekend they visited Whitstable Town and drew two-all.

Harrison Carnegie put the hosts ahead in the first half but Tyrell Richardson-Brown levelled twenty minutes into the second period.

When Rob Strachan put the visitors ahead two minutes into stoppage time, they may have felt they had done enough. However, Whitstable had other ideas and Muhammed Cham levelled in the seventh additional minute.

Eighth place Rusthall are unbeaten in three, but all have been at home following a five-one defeat at Sutton Athletic.

Their last outing was at home to Lordswood, and they also suffered a late disappointment.

Louie Clarke scored twice for them in the first twenty-five minutes, and they looked good for the win until William Marsh pulled one back with a minute of regulation time remaining.

Junior Baker then stunned the home supporters when he levelled less than a minute later.

The corresponding game last season was a lively affair. Nathan Palmer put the Deres ahead four minutes after the break and Danny Lear added a second shortly after.

As the game moved into the closing minutes, a flare up saw Rusthall’s Ryan Styles and Erith’s Rob Curtis dismissed and the visitors were reduced to nine men when Luke Adams was shown a red card in time added on.
