Erith & Belvedere v Holmesdale preview

Tuesday night football takes place at the Acclaim Handling Community Stadium, Park View Road when Erith and Belvedere host Holmesdale in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division.

After six league games each, there is just one point between the two teams with Holmesdale in sixth place and the Deres in eighth.

On Saturday, Erith travelled to Rusthall and fell to a three-one defeat. Louie Clarke scored twice in the first eleven minutes to put the hosts in command. He completed his hat-trick ten minutes into the second half and Freddie Baker’s late goal was no more than a consolation.

Meanwhile the Dalers were enjoying a convincing victory at home to Stansfeld. By half time it was four-nil through goals by Alfie Clark, a Lewis Heywood-Oriogun brace and a Nathaniel Murray strike before the break. Heywood-Oriogun scored his third just after the hour mark, and Clark added his second with under fifteen minutes remaining. In the last eight minutes, Sam Plant scored a brace for Stansfeld but it was too little too late.

In the two matches between Erith and Holmesdale last season, it was the team from the outskirts of Bromley that had the best of things. In the first game the Deres had a half time lead through Baker despite being away. However, Heywood-Oriogun and Mecca Samuels scored in the second half to win it for the hosts.

Then, in the return match in April, Heywood-Oriogun scored twice in the first nine minutes before Jonny Harris added a third, still in first half. Although Ladic Melconian pulled one back immediately after the restart, it was two little too late as Holmesdale completed the double.

Although still early in the season, both teams will be fighting for the three points that could take them into the top five.
