Erith & Belvedere 0-0 Wroxham

Erith and Belvedere were held by Wroxham as both teams looked to claim the points needed to move away from the bottom area of the Ryman Isthmian Division One North.Erith & Belvedere

The Deres last game was on Boxing Day when they were defeated 1-0 by league leaders VCD Athletic and manager Chris Cosgrove made three changes to the starting line up. Felix Ogeah- Andrews, Taylor Thomas and Danny Dolan were replaced by Luke Tanner, Richard Morgan and Luis Rozan.

Jamie Miller of Erith and Matthew Halliday of Wroxham each had shots saved with relative ease before clever footwork gave Morgan an opening but he fired over from the edge of the penalty area.

Stephen Drake, Wroxham’s lone striker, did well to win two headers against defenders far taller than him but Ross Durrant didn’t make the most of the good work and shot straight at Ashley Bourne, the Deres’ goalkeeper.

Although Erith won seven first half corners, to Wroxham’s none, they did not make the most of them, the closest being from the final one just before the break when Laurence Collins headed wide from Rozan’s delivery.

James Golding came to Erith’s rescue twice early in the second half. First he knocked Ben Price’s header off the line. There followed an almighty goalmouth scramble and again he was on hand to make a vital block.

Joseph Marsden shot well over for Wroxham then Durrant had a shot turned away by Bourne who was grateful that an unmarked Price headed the resulting corner directly at him.

Miller was booked for a foul on Marsden before Bourne was again called into action when rushing out to save well from Drake who was through on goal.

Golding then produced a moment of quality when breaking down the right side, cutting in and firing just over with a shot off the outside of his boot.

Bourne had to watch anxiously when Drake’s shot was deflected just wide by Reis Boyle.

Substitute Ryan Flack beat the offside trap in the closing moments but The Yachtsmen’s goalkeeper Robert Juhasz was out quickly to block the shot.
