Ebbsfleet United v Welling United preview

Clubs at the opposite end of the form table meet when Ebbsfleet United host Welling United in a Vanarama National League South fixture.

Over the last four games, the Fleet have won three and drawn one, the draw being the only match that they have not won in any competition this season. At the other end of the scale, Welling have not won in four however they are on a run of two defeats in ten league games.

Even though Ebbsfleet are top of the league having won ten and drawn one of their eleven league games, they cannot to afford to relax as Havant and Waterlooville are only two points behind with nine wins and two draws.

The Fleet still hold a one hundred percent home record and will want to extend it.

Although Welling’s form has tapered off a little, they will still visit with confidence as they are unbeaten on the road with three wins and two draws. They are one of the two teams to have claimed a point against Havant and have taken action to strengthen their defence. Former Millwall defender Sid Nelson has joined on a one month loan.

When the two teams met at the Kufflink Stadium, Stonebridge Road last season, Craig Tanner opened the scoring for the hosts in the first minute and Rakish Bingham added a second in under ten minutes. Bingham and Tanner completed their braces and Alfie Egan also scored with forty minutes on the clock.

After that, Ebbsfleet took their foot off the pedal but still added a sixth with one minute remaining when Elliott Romain netted against one of his former clubs.

Derby matches can be unpredictable, and the bare minimum that Welling manager Warren Feeney will expect will be for his team to be competitive.

Dennis Kutrieb, the Ebbsfleet manager, has been involved in football for long enough to know that he cannot take anything for granted so his team will be well prepared. It could be an interesting game.
