Ebbsfleet United v Chelmsford City preview

On Tuesday evening, Ebbsfleet United entertain Chelmsford City in the Vanarama National South.

Since relegation, Josh Wright’s team have shown no signs of feeling sorry for themselves and have won both matches played so far. On Saturday, they hosted Chippenham Town and were good value for their win, courtesy of a second half goal by Aaron Cosgrave. That followed a two-nil win on opening day at Dagenham and Rebdbridge.

Ambitious Chelmsford City started their campaign with a one-nil victory at home to newly promoted Horsham. On Saturday they travelled to Weston-super-Mare and defended well to come away with a point.

When the two teams last met at the Kufflink Stadium, back in January 2023, and also in midweek, just under 1,000 spectators watched the Fleet win two-nil.

Rakish Bingham scored in the first half and Luke O’Neill ensured the three points with a goal in the closing minutes. The last time that Chelmsford won at Ebbsfleet was back in September 2015 in an FA Cup replay.

As neither club has conceded a goal yet this season, it is expected to be a tense encounter especially as the Clarets’ goalkeeper, Chris Haigh, is a former Ebbsfleet goalkeeper.
