Ebbsfleet United have announced they are under new ownership and that should hopefully mean they will soon be able to begin their season.

The opening three games of the National League South season were postponed by the National League after there were question marks around Fleet’s financial position.

However, the club have now cleared up some of those issues and appear to be one step closer to starting their season.

A statement issued by the club reads:

“Ebbsfleet United can today confirm that full transfer of control of the club to Mr. John O’Leary has been completed.

Following the transfer of control, funds have been transferred to Ebbsfleet United FC to settle HMRC and football creditors.

Mr O’Leary will make a more detailed statement and will be present at the club this week.

A supporters’ meet and greet/Q&A will take place in the following weeks with further details to follow.”

A further statement was then issued stating Saturday’s game had also been postponed. It reads:

“The club has today at 16:26 received an update and response from the National League following today’s committee meeting.

They have informed the club the submissions made yesterday do not satisfy the League committee’s requirements. They have requested more detail and clarification and extended the suspension for seven days.

As a result, this Saturday’s originally scheduled fixture at home to AFC Totton has been postponed.”

There was then a final update issued to fans. It reads:

“Following our earlier response to the National League Committee’s decision to extend the club’s suspension for a further seven days, we would like to provide the following update and information.

The National League have acknowledged the takeover as being a positive step.

The past week has been challenging in terms of bringing the transfer of ownership to fruition on a faster timeline than was originally planned for, following the original suspension and deadline imposed by the League.

The transaction finally took place only after 4.30pm yesterday (Tuesday) leaving an incredibly short timeline for turnaround once the new ownership was made official.

The transfer of funds was made as required; however, that has not been able to clear in time, prior to the League meeting today.

That will be addressed along with the provision of more detailed responses and additional information as requested by the League. This response will address the outstanding items for the League within the specified timeframes.”
