Dover Athletic 1-1 Solihull Moors

Inih Effiong’s tenth goal of the season was cut out by an excellent free kick from Jamey Osborne as the points were shared at Crabble in an entertaining draw.

Dover took the early lead through Effiong and had multiple chances to double their lead before Osborne’s curling free kick put the Moors level.

Earlier in the day, Dover boss Andy Hessenthaler made one change to the side that beat Yeovil last weekend, with Jai Reason returning from a one game suspension to replace Nassim L’Ghoul.

Dover started strong and took the lead with their first shot of the game. A free kick by Jack Munns found the head of Inih Effiong, with his header looping over Ryan Boot in the Solihull goal.

Effiong had a great chance to double his and Dover’s tally shortly after his opening goal when the big striker was put through one on one with the keeper, but Ryan Boot made himself big to make the save.

Dover chances continued through Effiong and the returning Reason, but Moors, who had started to get a foothold on possession, equalised with their first shot on target through a free kick given away by Michael Woods.

Jamey Osborne curled the free kick into the top left corner, giving Yusuf Mersin no chance in the Dover goal.

Dover must have thought they were back infront through Reason with 10 minutes to go till half time, who was unmarked in the box as the cross came into the box, but his free header was too high and went over the bar.

The second half started with an injection of pace and energy, with both teams having chances to take the lead.

First, Steve Rigg beat the Solihull defence and shot early, but his shot lacked any sort of power and it was easily stopped by the goalkeeper.

It was then Solihull’s turn to try and take the lead, and they would’ve been ahead if it wasn’t for a brilliant save by Yusuf Mersin, who tipped the ball out for a corner from Jamey Osborne’s shot.

Solihull started to look more clinical as the second half went on, with Callum Howe rising high from a corner, but he headed it just over the bar.

Dover’s best chance of the second half came through FA Cup hero Ruel Sotiriou. Rigg’s cross landed at the head of the Cypriot, but he couldn’t keep his header down.

With 15 minutes to go both teams were looking for the winner and Solihull didn’t know how they weren’t ahead as James Ball failed to make contact with Osborne’s cross.

Effiong then had another chance to double his tally, after Sotiriou found the Dover number nine who ran towards goal, but his shot was once again saved by the Moors goalkeeper.

Solihull must’ve felt aggrieved to not to take the lead with only a couple of minutes left after a scramble in the box led to the ball coming off the post.

Dover will be back in action on Tuesday night as they welcome Maidenhead United to Crabble.
