Dover Athletic 0-0 Welling United

It was a point apiece as Dover Athletic and Welling United played out an uneventful draw.

Both teams are having a difficult season and neither are guaranteed safety from the drop however each inched closer to safety as a result of their Good Friday game.

Miles Judd had the first effort for Dover with a shot that was deflected wide by Jamie Sendles-White before Andi Janjeva’s header drew an easy save out of Kai McKenzie-Lyle.

He made an even more straight-forward one from a long range effort by Freddie Oliver then Brandon Pierrick created an opportunity but Judd could only poke it straight at the Welling custodian.

Although Welling won a couple of corners, they failed to make anything of them and after they struggled to clear at the other end, Lee Martin drew a good save out of McKenzie-Lyle. Dover kept the opportunity alive and got it back into the area and all that Jake Goodman needed to do was to get a clean header on it but, somehow he managed to glance it wide.

Luke Wanadio was allowed to cut in from the left and shoot with his right foot but although it took an awkward bounce, McKenzie-Lyle was watchful and pushed it away.

After the interval, Welling conceded a needless free kick five yards outside their own penalty area but the Whites didn’t make the most of it when Martin fired over.

Goodman got in at the far post but couldn’t direct his effort past McKenzie Lyle before Jordan Higgs executed the pass of the day to send Wanadio away but Kodi Foster-Lyons got back superbly to crowd the Dover front man out as he tried to work it onto his right foot.

Joshua Ajayi had a shot deflected wide before Welling had a big shout for a penalty. Their best move of the match, down the right wing, resulted in Ade Azeez having a shot that hit the arm of a defender. Despite Welling’s appeals, the referee was unmoved.

Neither side created another chance in the remaining twenty minutes but there was drama after the final whistle when Welling manager Warren Feeney was shown a second yellow and a red card.
