Dorking Wanderers 1-0 Tonbridge Angels

Tonbridge Angels went out of the FA Trophy at Meadowbank in a game that in a sense was something of a carbon copy of their match against KingstonIan in midweek but this time there was to be no late reprieve.

The goal that separated the two sides came in the 38th minute from Dorking top scorer Jason Prior following an uncharacteristic mistake from Angels central defender Arthur Lee.

The home side had the better of the first half with Angels keeper Jonny Henly pulling off a series of excellent saves to maintain parity, that is until Prior’s intervention a few minutes before half time. That said Tonbridge did have chances of their own the best coming in the 18th minute with Tom Beere at the far post attempting to convert Adem Ramadan’s cross only to be thwarted by Slavomir Huk.

After the half time team talk in the away dressing room Tonbridge upped their game although for a while Henly continued to be the busier ‘keeper maintaining his side’s interest in the game with further impressive stops.

It was the introduction of Tommy Whitnell in midfield that started to swing the game Tonbridge’s way and now it was the turn of Dorking’s goalkeeper to become the hero of the hour with three superlative saves in the final 10 minutes that effectively put his side into the hat for the next round.

Angels Boss, Steve McKimm said:” I was disappointed with our first half performance but to be fair we responded well in the second half but it wasn’t to be. The boys in there are hurting as they know it’s an opportunity gone but we have to pick ourselves up and prepare for Haringey not much more that 48 hours from now.”
