Ryan Dixon had an excellent weekend at the Aberdare Park road races last weekend, becoming the Welsh Open Champion for the third time.

It really couldn’t have gone much better for Ryan with ten wins, one second place and one did not finish across the twelves races at the weekend. He brings us up-to-date with his weekend.

A successful weekend was had. An event Paul from Trickbits holds dear, we went with a view of trying to win as much as possible but the main aim being the Welsh Open title for a third time.

Things started off well with pole position in all three classes – Supertwin, Supersport 600 and Welsh open. A big crash Saturday morning meant a big delay, I’d just like to wish the injured rider the best and hoping he makes a good, full recovery in time. This meant there were only three heat races on Saturday, all of which I managed to win, not necessarily by much but a win is a win. 

This also meant a busy Sunday, with multiple races scheduled. 9 o’clock came round and I got to work.

The morning consisted of the races carried over from Saturday, the final from each class for me. I managed to win all three, not by much again but did what I needed to. 

Then came the afternoon, six races and all more laps too. The heat races I planned to see how things went, they’re effectively a qualifier for grid position in the finals but when the helmet went on race mode automatically kicked in. Supersport 600 I won, leading the whole race, Supertwin however, I was second for most of the race before an opportunistic move around the outside on the final lap when we caught a back marker meant I took the win. 

Then came the finals. Unfortunately the Supertwin decided it wasn’t playing ball from the start and a big misfire meant a first lap retirement. Supersport 600 up next and I lead from start to finish to take the win, only by 0.123 of a second but got the job done. Then came the Welsh open final (second leg).

I was beaten to turn one and then Joey Lambden made an opportunistic move to push me to third. This seemed to light a fire inside me, I managed to pick the two of them off and then put the hammer down to see what I could do, taking the win by 1.1 seconds, the biggest win margin of the weekend for me. This also made me Welsh Open champion for 2026 and a third time. 

There was also the invitational to finish the weekend where grid positions are random. Got a good start and was second out of turn one, tried to make a pass a couple of times but Joey was riding more defensively and making it difficult. I did kind of get in front twice but ran wide both times and had to settle for second. 

In total, 12 races started, 10 wins, one second and one DNF, I’ll take that. Welsh Open Champion x 3
