Deal Town v Glebe – Preview

The “Deal Town v Glebe” series returns this Saturday when the two clubs meet for the fifth time this season.

This time it’s for a Southern Counties East League Challenge Cup second round tie at the Charles Ground. They have already met twice in both in the FA Cup and FA Vase, and with two more league games still to play it means the clubs will clash a total of seven times this campaign.

At the moment the honours are evenly shared. In the FA Cup preliminary round back in August Glebe won 3-0 in a replay at Chislehurst after a 2-2 draw at the Charles Ground, and then in September Deal powered to a 7-2 victory in another replay after drawing 3-3 at Glebe in the FA Vase first qualifying round.

After winning the Division One title last season Glebe have made a reasonable start to life in the Premier Division. They are currently lying in 13th position, two places and three points behind the Hoops having played two matches more.

Like Deal they were in action in midweek, losing 4-2 at home to Erith Town on Tuesday, and with the Hoops boosted by their 4-1 win at Rochester the following night Derek Hares’ side will be confident of coming out on top in Saturday’s latest “Hoops v Glebe” episode – and this time the outcome must be decided at the first time of asking, with extra time and penalties if the scores are level after 90 minutes
