Dartford v Welling United preview

It’s local derby time on Saturday when Dartford entertain Welling United in a Vanarama National League South fixture.

After seven league games, Welling hold a four point advantage over the hosts having won four, drawn one and lost two. The Darts have won three and lost four.

In their most recent outing, Dartford were beaten at Chippenham Town. Maxwell Statham put the Darts ahead six minutes before the break but the hosts levelled on the stroke of half time. It looked as though Dartford would leave Wiltshire with at least a point only for them to concede the decider in stoppage time.

At Park View Road it was very different story as Welling trounced Oxford City. Ade Azeez started the rout in the ninth minute on his way to a first half hat-trick. Stefan Payne scored one in each half and might also have had a claim for a match ball had his first half shot that hit the bar been slightly lower.

Princes Park has not been a happy hunting ground for Welling in recent years as the Darts have only dropped one point since Boxing Day 2013 in home encounters with the Wings.

Both clubs have had squad overhauls since the end of last season which includes players exchanging clubs. Statham was at Welling last season while Azeez and Tyrique Hyde have made the opposite move.
