Dartford v Torquay United preview

Tuesday night at Princes Park promises to be an intriguing tussle between Dartford and Torquay United.

They are two of the form teams in the Vanarama National League South with big ambitions.

Jamie Coyle and Adam Flanagan’s Darts started the season slowly but they have found their form now and are in sixth place with thirty points from seventeen games, four points behind league leaders Welling United having played the same number of games.

Since Gary Johnson took over at Plaimoor, Torquay have been on fire and are just a point off the top in third place but have played a game more. He replaced Gary Owers when he was sacked and the Gulls have yet to tasted defeat under his management.

Their last six games have been four wins and two draws whilst the Darts have won five and lost one in the same number of games. Dartford’s home record is won five, drawn two and lost one while Torquay have an impressive away record of won four, drawn four and lost one.

Early on in the season Dartford struggled for goals and only four clubs have scored fewer league goals than them this season. That, combined with Torquay having conceded the fewest in the league might suggest that the Devon club have a slight edge.

However, since the Darts re-signed Charlie Sheringham that have become a lot more potent and he has scored five times in eight league games. They have added further to their armoury with the signing of former Queens Park Rangers attacking midfielder Dan Darbyshire who has signed from Lewes. He will be available to make his debut against the Gulls.

As the league is so congested, defeat wouldn’t be disastrous for either team but a victory would certainly lay down a marker and it promises to be an exciting game.
