Dartford 4-0 Folkestone Invicta

Dartford gave Folkestone a Hyde-ing to progress to the Kent Senior Cup semi-finals.

In yet a another game in wet and windy conditions Dartford took control with first half goals from Liam Nash and Tyrique Hyde. It was soon all over in the second half as Billy Crook and Elliott Romain put the game beyond any doubt.

Despite making nine changes to the starting eleven from Saturday Steve King was still able to put out a strong team, such is the depth of his squad.

The game started evenly and for the first twenty minutes Folkestone were equal to the hosts and it was the away side who produced the first shot on goal when Heard had an effort from the edge of the box that Smith pushed wide.

Dartford’s first sight of goal came from the ever troublesome Amrit Bansal-McNulty who had an effort deflected wide. The resulting corner was met by Ronnie Vint but his header was an easy catch for Newcombe in the Folkestone goal.

From his save Newcombe set up a break with his clearance and Jackson fired over when he should have done better.

Dartford then started to take control and efforts from Nash, McGregor and Bansal-McNulty all failed to hit the target. A free kick from Bansal-McNulty alluded everyone but bounced just past the post.

Hyde then had a great opportunity to open the scoring but a great block stopped his shot reaching the goal.

The Darts finally got the breakthrough after some great play by Hyde. He flicked the ball past the defender, played a one-two with Bansal-McNulty and put a great cross in for Nash to head home.

Man of the match Hyde was then brought down by Newcombe after breaking into the box. He took the penalty himself and powered it into the corner.

Dartford were now on the front foot, Bansal-McNulty fired a free kick over the bar and McGregor had a long range effort saved meaning the Darts went in 2-0 up at half time.

In the second half Dartford were able to kill the game off early when a pass from Nash sent Crook in on goal and he produced a lovely dink over the sliding keeper to score his first for the club.

With 25 minutes to go another great move involving Bansal-McNulty and Hyde ended with a low cross to Romain who tapped in with his first touch.

The game slowed down as Dartford comfortably knocked the ball around. They did almost get a fifth but Newcombe produced a save and Folkestone were able to scramble the ball away.

A comfortable victory for Dartford sees them progress and sets them up nicely for Saturday’s big game against top of the league Wealdstone.
