Dartford 2-3 Dorking Wanderers
Dartford 2-3 Dorking Wanderers

Dartford fell to their first league defeat of the season after losing at home to Dorking Wanderers in the National League South.

The visitors took a half time lead following a brace for Jason Prior either side of a goal for Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong. Jack Jebb scored a delightful free kick to bring the home side level before Matt Briggs won it for Dorking.

Elliott Romain was brought back in to the side to replace the injured Moussa Bakayoko as Steve King made one change to the side that beat Havant & Waterlooville last week.

Dartford came in to the game in great form but their defence were unable to clear their lines in the first minute resulting in Fogden being played through. King came rushing off his line to save his initial shot but the ball looped in to the air and Prior headed home from a yard out.

The Darts were almost level straight away when Romain was fouled 25 yards out. Jebb curled the ball over the wall but Huk saved well diving to his left.

Midway through the half the hosts were able to equalise after some great work by Barham winning the ball from the Dorking defence at the corner flag. He then rolled the ball back to Romain who squared it into the path of the onrushing Berkeley-Agyepong who smashed the ball in to the net.

Dartford took control of the game but were unable to create any real opening. A couple of long range efforts from Romain and Berkeley-Agyepong were comfortably saved by Huk.

In first half stoppage time, against the run of play, the visitors took the lead after Wheeler put in a cross that was smartly flicked in to the net by Prior for his second goal.

Dartford fought back again early in the second half after Berkeley-Agyepong was brought down just outside the box. Jebb stood over the ball again and this time Huk could do nothing about his curling shot.

Minutes later Dorking thought they were back in front after a free kick was headed in but the referee blew for a foul.

Dartford’s midfield was in control of the game and after a one-two with Jebb, Husin was only able to fire his effort in to the side netting.

Dorking threatened to go ahead when Rutherford pounced on a loose ball outside the area but his shot was easily saved by King.

The visitors did retake the lead when a long throw in was won twice by a Dorking head before the ball fell to Briggs who volleyed in to give them an undeserved lead.

Dartford went in search of a third equaliser but they couldn’t create any chances as the Dorking defence stood strong. There was no real quality in the final third and as the ball was pumped in to the box it was always met by a Dorking head.

A disappointing home defeat see’s Dartford drop to third. On Tuesday night they travel to Hemel Hempstead.
