Dartford 2-0 Bath City
Dartford 2-0 Bath City

Dartford continued in their winning ways, eight games on the trot but Bath City gave them a game but in the end it was clinical finishing that won the day, and it is step nearer to being Champions. One game to go and Bognor Regis Town stand in their way.

Bath came out to spoil the party & try themselves to get into the play-offs, in the 3rd minute Antione Semenyo running from halfway was forced wide & his low cross found Tom Smith but under pressure his shot from 6 yards was easily saved by Berti Schotterl.

Seven minutes later & Dartford had a chance when Lee Noble’s free kick into the area was cleared to Alex Brown who from 20 yards saw his shot go past the post. Another chance came three minutes later when Tom Bonner tried his luck from 30 yards but it went wide. Dartford were now getting control of the game & in the 22nd minute another Noble free kick into the area found Alfie Pavey & his volley went just over the bar.

In a rare attack a Bath corner forced Schotterl to push it over the bar. In the 37th minute Dartford took the lead when Andy Pugh on the right received the ball & his cross to the back post found Danny Mills who from 5 yards out headed in, his third in three games, the majority of the crowd went mad.

In the 44th minute Bath could have equalised when Andy Watkins on the left wing swung in a cross to the back post where Jack Batten on his own 10 yards out volleyed well over the bar.

The second half started with Bath trying to get an equaliser, in the 47th minute a low corner to the near post saw Batten’s flicked effort go just past the post, in the next minute Jack Compton’s free kick from 20 yards was easily saved by Schotterl.

The game changer came in the 61st minute When crowd favourite Ryan Hayes came on for Andy Pugh. He went straight to the right wing & started to cause the Bath defence all sorts of problems. In the 70th minute Dartford made the game safe when Brown on the right saw his low cross into the 6 yard box where Pavey bundled the ball into the net, again the crowd went mad.

In the 76th minute Hayes nearly made it three when he received the ball on the right cut inside & his curling shot from 18 yards went just past the post.  Bath seemed shocked by this & in the end had only one half chance in the 80th minute when Semenyo passed out wide to James Ollis whose curling effort went just past the post.

As the minutes ticked by the entire crowd were ready to celebrate & it was nearly three in the 89th minute when Duane Ofari-Acheampong was put through & he raced into the area but his shot was saved by Luke Southwood’s legs.

The final whistle went & the Dartford players & crowd were celebrating & hope this will be their last home game of the season.
