Cugley pays tribute to Everitt
Cugley pays tribute to Everitt

Folkestone Invicta’s long serving boss Neil Cugley has paid a sincere and heartfelt tribute to a player whose loyalty and commitment to the club can be rated second only to whose own.

Midfielder and former captain Micheal EverittMev to all at the Fullicks Stadium – is now past a phenomenal total of 700 appearances for the club and playing a vital role in the latest encouraging season.

“He’s such a great lad” said who has had Everitt under his wing since to locally born player’s early teenage years.

“And, I’m delighted to say that he has further justified our faith in him by everything he’s helping to contribute ion the management side.

“His contribution from the bench has been outstanding. It’s not easy to earn the respect of your fellow players – I tried to do that myself in my playing days and can vouch for that personally.

“But Mev never gives you less than 100 per cent in everything you ever ask of him.”

Everitt, 36, will be as keen as anyone to see Folkestone get back on the winning trail when they take on Kingstonian and then Dorking Wanderers following two defeats which, though not vital, were disappointing in different ways.

Of the 4-1 league cup loss at Bracknell, Cugley said: “They were a good side who made the most of their 3G pitch and that late goal (from Johan Ter Horst) was our only consolation.

“At Brightlingsea Regent (0-2) last weekend we didn’t adapt to the difficult bobbly pitch or the fussy referee which was, as you say, disappointing.

“The game we lost at Kingstonian a couple of months back was probably the worst we’ve played this season, but he put right a similar defeat to Hornchurch and let’s hope we can do the same again this weekend.

“We’ve still got injuries and are living from game to game at the moment. I think Matt Newman, Finn O’Mara and perhaps Ian Draycott may be back, but we’ll have to wait to see on the day.”

Kick off at the Fullicks Stadium is 3pm as usual.
