Crewe Alexandra vs Gillingham – Preview

Gillingham are back in League Two action this Saturday as they make the 210-mile journey to the Mornflake stadium to face Crewe Alexandra.

Gillingham will be looking to build on their 2-1 win at home to Tranmere last Saturday. Manager Gareth Ainsworth has spoken about the resilience of his side as they dug deep in the final 15 minutes to secure the victory after Tranmere pulled a goal back.

Gillingham’s January signing, striker Ronan Hale opened his account for the club as he scored both goals in the victory.

Gillingham currently sit 14th in the table, eight points away from the playoff places, but they have at least one game in hand over several teams currently above them.

Crewe Alexandra are currently 10th on 47 points, two away from the playoff places and six ahead of Gillingham. However, they have played two more games.

They had a great start to the season with four wins in the opening four fixtures, but this run was stopped by Gillingham, who beat them 1-0 at Priestfield. They then lost five of the following eight games as they slipped from top of the table to 11th.

Crewe’s recent form has been better; they have lost one game from the eight they have played in 2026, with four wins and three draws.

Last Saturday, they secured a 1-0 win away at Crawley, courtesy of an impressive 77th minute volley by Tommi O’Reilly.

Gillingham and Crewe have played each other on 60 occasions, with Gillingham winning 24 and Crewe 25.

The Gillingham squad has no new injuries. Ainsworth has said Conor Masterson and Nelson Khumbeni are still unavailable – although Khumbeni has now started training again. Marcus Wylie and Lennie Cirino are also available for selection.

After this fixture, Gillingham are away to Chesterfield on Tuesday, who are a point ahead of Crewe. These two games against the teams who are slightly ahead of them are crucial – they will need to get something from these fixtures if they want to reach the playoff places.
