Broadstairs ace Michael Crees is impressing in his debut season with BTC Racing in the British Touring Car Championship with solid points finishes and leading the Jack Sears Trophy.

There might have been a few eyebrows raised in the closed season with Crees making the move in only his second season in the series but he is proving everyone wrong with solid points finishes as he establishes himself in the team.

Speaking to Kent Sports News about working with BTC Racing, he said: “I am loving every minute of it as the whole team work so hard!!! Everyone plays their part and if I need anything it’s sorted straight away.”

At Oulton Park last weekend Crees netted his best ever qualifying position with P12 and it showed to Michael that he can mix it at the sharp end every race weekend.

He added: “Yeah for sure working with Josh Cook the last few weeks have really helped and definitely taken me to the next level!! We just need to keep working hard now for the next little bit to take us to top six.”

Michael has scored points in all but three races of the nine that have been run this season, and whilst it is frustrating it is all part of races.

“Yeah but this is BTCC. Anything can happen at any time and that’s why it’s the best championship in the world.”

Unfortunately at Oulton Park Crees had a coming together with his teammate Josh Cook as they went to overtake the same car. It is just part of racing and was a racing incident, something that Michael agreed with.

He said: “Completely that and me and Josh are fine, I had to make him a cup of tea to smooth it over but we both cracked on had some dinner and watched the Indy 500 together that night ha ha.”

Crees is leading the Jack Sears Trophy going into this weekend at Knockhill with four wins, one second and two thirds so far. He is happy with the season so far.

“You have to keep that in mind even more now as lost 11 points to Bob (Bobby Thompson) in the last round and could have been sitting here pretty but have all the hard work to do again now.”

It is back to back race weekends as the season heads to Scotland and the Knockhill circuit and Michael is hopeful that he can challenge for the top ten and podium places.

He said: “That’s the plan I came up with Josh on Monday and today we been working on lots of things already so hoping this will work for Knockhill.”

Crees is loving working with his more experienced team mates in Josh Cook and Tom Chilton and the advice that they can give.

He added: “They are both incredible, quick and talented experienced professional drivers and both so kind to teach me so much!”
