Crees back in the BTCC

British Touring Car favourite Michael Crees is returning to the BTCC grid for the remainder of the 2023 season it has been announced this morning.

Crees will be lining up on the grid for Team Hard Racing, as he takes the place of Bobby Thompson behind the wheel of the Cupra Leon.

Michael, who previously raced with the team in 2019, is set to make a strong comeback following his successful stint with the Power Maxed Racing outfit in 2022.

He made his BTCC debut in 2019 and quickly established himself as a talented and competitive driver within the series. His impressive performances and consistent dedication on the track led to his crowning as the Jack Sears trophy champion in 2020, highlighting his abilities and commitment to the sport.

After a brief departure, Michael’s return to Team Hard Racing signifies a significant reunion for both the driver and team. Having previously worked together, they are eager to reignite their partnership, leveraging their combined experience and expertise to continue to push the Cupra Leon up the BTCC grid.

Michael will be taking over the wheel from Bobby Thompson, who unfortunately had to step down due to the team’s budget constraints and the rising costs associated with competing in the championship.

While the circumstances surrounding Bobby’s departure are regrettable, Team Hard Racing would like to extend their gratitude for his fantastic contributions and look forward to continuing to work with Bobby.

With Michael’s return, Team Hard Racing is poised to inject a fresh surge of energy and determination into the second half of the BTCC season. His proven skills, will enable the team to hit the ground running in what has been a competitive year so far.

Michael expressed his excitement about rejoining Team Hard Racing, he said: “I’m so excited to be returning to Team Hard I have missed the family feel and even though I’ve been at other teams they have always made me and my family feel welcome.

“The team has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years and it’s been showing in the results out on track. I’m super excited to jump in the Cupra, dust off some cobwebs and give it my best shot!”

Team Hard Racing team principal, Tony Gilham, said: “We are delighted to have Michael back on board. He is a talented driver with a proven track record and shares our passion for the BTCC. We believe that this reunion will be a fruitful one, and we look forward to a successful second half of the season.”

The British Touring Car Championship action will resume on 29/30th July as the series returns to Croft. The team are excited for Michael’s returns to the fold, donning the Team Hard Racing colours once again.
