Cray Wanderers vs Worthing – preview

Following two cup exits in the last week Cray Wanderers return to Isthmian League Premier Division action on Saturday afternoon when they entertain Worthing at Hayes Lane.

Tony Russell’s side lost 3-1 at Maldon & Tiptree in the FA Trophy last weekend before exiting the Kent Senior Cup on Wednesday with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of VCD Athletic.

Worthing make the trip up from the Sussex coast on a great run of form, unbeaten in five matches. Last Saturday they won 2-1 over Walton Casuals in the Trophy before drawing 1-1 at Potters Bar Town on Tuesday in the league, The Rebels goal coming from former Bromley winger Reece Meekums.

The midweek point took Worthing up to fifth in the table with 24 points from 13 games under manager Adam Hinshelwood.

The Wands are unbeaten in their last three league games and sit two places below their visitors on 21 points from 13 matches played, a very solid return in their first season back at this level following promotion.

Mitchell Nelson is suspended for the game with young defender Geoffrey Okonkwo looking the most likely to step in at the back, having done so very well before in this campaign.

This looks set to be an entertaining and competitive game between two good sides sitting around the play off spots.

Entrance is £10 for adults £5 for concessions, while season ticket holders of Premier League, Football League and National League sides can gain entrance for only £5 upon production of their season ticket at the turnstile.
