Cray Wanderers vs Enfield Town – Preview

Cray Wanderers continue their busy festive fixtures schedule on Friday night when they entertain Enfield Town in the Isthmian League Premier Division at Hayes Lane.

The Wands had their Boxing Day game with Margate abandoned in the 92nd minute with the score tied at 0-0 when Yahya Bamba sustained a head injury that required the urgent medical attention and an ambulance. Results from other games saw Neil Smith’s side sitting in seventeenth place, two places above the relegation zone on goal difference with 19 points from 18 league matches. Bamba will obviously not be available for the game, joining Nyren Clunis on the injury list and both are big misses from the squad.

Enfield Town travel down from North London sitting in third with 40 points from 20 league games, on Boxing Day Gavin MacPherson’s side won 2-1 away at Cheshunt with a goal from Sam Youngs & and own goal. Town have won three and lost once so far this month keeping them in touch with leaders AFC Hornchurch.

When the sides met at Donkey Lane in August The Es won 2-0 with a second half double from Marcus Wyllie and the visitors will go into this game as favourites as they look to maintain their promotion push, while The Wands will be hoping for a positive result to put some space between themselves and the drop zone heading into 2024.

Entrance for the game is £12 and £6 for concessions, with an excellent printed programme at £2. Supporters can gain entry for half price if they bring a non-perishable donation for Lewisham Food Bank. Kick off is at 7:45pm.
