Cray Wanderers vs Cheshunt – Preview

Following Wednesday night’s 3-2 FA Cup replay extra time defeat at Ramsgate, Cray Wanderers return to Isthmian League Premier Division action on Saturday afternoon when they entertain Cheshunt at Hayes Lane.

The Wands lost at Ramsgate on Wednesday evening after drawing 2-2 at home to The Rams last Sunday, letting in two late goals having lead 2-0 in the first game before coming back from two down in the replay thanks to goals from Nyren Clunis & Sam Wood.

In their last league outing Neil Smith’s side won 5-1 away at Chatham Town, which took them to nineteenth in the table on three points from their opening six league matches an despite the loss in midweek the side seem to have turned the corner in the last few weeks.

Cheshunt make the trip down from Hertfordshire sitting in fifteenth in the table, having beaten Bognor Regis Town 3-1 at home last Saturday thanks to a hattrick from Nnamdi Nwuckuchu.

The Ambers second league win on the season moved them up to seven points from seven matches in the first season back at this level following relegation from National League South last campaign and ended manager Craig Edwards’ side’s run of three losses.

Smith added midfielder Ellis Brown from Hornchurch and striker Gary Lockyer from Ashford United to boost his options and a few players are now returning from injury, but he will be without Cameron Black following his red card at Ramsgate.

The Wands will need to dust themselves down from the FA Cup disappointment and now focus on moving away from the bottom four of the table as September draws to an end.

Entrance for the game is £12 for adults and £6 for concessions with an excellent printed programme for £2. Kick off is at 3pm.
