Cray Wanderers vs Chesham United – Preview

Cray Wanderers are in FA Trophy First Round action at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon when they take on Chesham Utd.

The Wands go into the game having lost 2-1 away at Canvey Island in the league on Tuesday night, Gary Lockyer putting Cray in front before The Islanders came back and snatched all the points late on.

Neil Smith’s side played the majority of the game with ten men after Cameron Black was sent off in the first half. The defeat left The Wands third from bottom in the Isthmian League Premier Division with 10 points from 12 games.

Their last win came in the FA Trophy when they won 1-0 away at Needham Market, Ellis Brown with the vital goal to see Cray through to this round.

Chesham Utd make the trip down from Buckinghamshire sitting fourth in the Southern League Premier Division South with 26 points from 11 games. In the previous round of the Trophy The Generals defeated Enfield Town 4-3 at home.

Last weekend saw James Duncan and Michael Murray’s free scoring side pick up a 5-2 league win away at Poole Town, the goals coming from a Ricky German hattrick, Zak Joseph and Obi Ogochukwu.

Chesham are also still involved in the FA Cup where they face Maidstone Utd in the first round next weekend in what has been a great start to the season for them.

This will be a tough assignment for The Wands and they struggle to get their campaign going, but hopefully the FA Trophy will provide some positivity.

Entry for the game is £12 for adults and £6 for concessions with an excellent printed programme at £2, kick off 3pm.
