Cray Wanderers vs Canvey Island – Preview

In form Cray Wanderers are back in Isthmian League Premier Division action tonight when they entertain Canvey Island at Hayes Lane.

The Wands go into the game having won 1-0 away at Cheshunt last Saturday courtesy of a second half goal from Yahya Bamba.

The victory moved Neil Smith’s side up to fifteenth in the table with 36 points from 29 league games played, taking them thirteen points clear of the bottom four, unbeaten in six.

Defender Archie Johnson returned to The Wands last week having had spells away at Beckenham Town and Margate as Smith continues to strengthen his squad, having added Josh Hallard on loan from AFC Wimbledon and also welcomed back Rhys Murrell-Williamson to the club.

Jack Holland has also returned from a long injury lay off.

Canvey Island make the trip over from the Essex coast sitting two places above Cray on 38 points from 28 league matches.

Last weekend The Islanders lost 3-2 away at Margate, Lance Akins & Bradley Sach on target for Canvey either side of three goals from the hosts.

Brad Wellman’s side’s form has been up and down since the start of the new year and they will be looking to bounce back from Saturday.

When the teams met at The Movie Starr Stadium in October, Canvey won 2-1 with goals from Sach and Mason Hall, Gary Lockyer with the only goal for The Wands and this game looks set to be equally as close.

Entrance to the game is £12 for adults, £6 for concessions with an excellent printed programme at £2.
