Cray Wanderers vs Bedford Town – Preview
Cray Wanderers vs Bedford Town – Preview

It promises to be a dramatic and tense night under the lights at Flamingo Park as Cray Wanderers and Bedford Town meet again after Saturday’s goalless draw with a great incentive to the winners of a home tie in the 1st Round of the FA Cup vs Stockport County.

There weren’t too many chances on Saturday but the Wands excelled on the day against National North Bedford and perhaps unfortunate not to come away with a win and a place outright in the 1st Round for the first time and a third tie to require a replay this season.

Cray came closest to scoring and winning  especially through Alex Hernandez and Frankie Raymond who saw shots well saved by Laurie Walker.

Bedford didn’t create many chances but George Moncur saw a shot well held by JJ Briggs as Cray’s defence battened down the hatches at the back. Both teams had the ball in the net once but disallowed but overall Cray merited another crack at history.

This will still be a tough challenge against a Bedford side who in the previous round had a similar outcome at home to Wingate & Finchley but won professionally 3-1 in the replay where Moncur scored alongside two goals from Louie Kudiabor. Bedford Town will also be keen to get through to the 1st Round for the first time since 2001-02.

With the prospect of Stockport County, currently 2nd in League 1 and last season’s playoff finalists on the weekend of 7th-8th November any inhibitions from the first game will be thrown aside and should be a great match.

Please note the tie will go to extra-time and penalties if level after ninety minutes.

This is an occasion Cray Wanderers have yearned for for decades and now stand on the brink of something very special but a lot of hard work to be done for this to happen but with our exceptional support behind us like Saturday we stand a chance.

Tickets for the game are available £15 adults, £10 concs, £5 u17s/u18s at www.cray-wanderers.com/tickets/ – Printed Match Programme – £3
