Cray Wanderers vs AFC Hornchurch preview

Cray Wanderers are back in Isthmian League Premier Division action on Wednesday night as sixth plays fifth, when they take on AFC Hornchurch at Hayes Lane.

The Wands go into the game on the back of an unbeaten start to 2020, Tony Russell’s side won 2-1 at Bowers & Pitsea on Saturday afternoon with goals from Joe Taylor and new signing Rhys Murrell-Williamson who scored a last minute winner on his debut.

The victory kept Cray in sixth place with 41 points from 24 league games played, just one place below the play off zone in their first season back at this level following promotion.

Murrell-Williamson only joined The Wands on Friday from National League South team Braintree Town and he will give the squad an added attacking dimension following Andre Coker’s transfer to Bromley in December.

Hornchurch make the journey across from East London having been knocked out of the FA Trophy by local rivals Aveley 2-1 at the weekend, only their second defeat in six matches.

Veteran striker Chris Dickson scored for The Urchins, his third goal in as many games and his 21st of the season so far for the club.

Hornchurch currently sit in fifth place also with 41 points but they have only played 20 league matches so far due to their run in the FA Trophy.

The game promises to be a closely fought encounter between two good sides looking to keep in touch with the top five and both have that precious asset of a genuine goal scorer in Dickson for The Urchins and Taylor for Cray who has currently netted 29 in all competitions this campaign.

Entrance for the game is £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, with season ticket holders of Premier League, Football league and National League clubs able to see the match for £5 on production of the season ticket at the gate.
