Cray Wanderers v Herne Bay – Preview

League leaders Cray Wanderers are back in Bostik League Division One South East action on Saturday afternoon when they entertain Herne Bay in a Kent Derby at Hayes Lane.

The Wands currently sit eleven points clear of Hastings Utd in the table, but will be facing a tough task against Herne Bay who are on an excellent run of form, winning four of their last five matches and defeating second placed Hastings 4-1 last weekend.

The Wands drew 1-1 away to Faversham Town last Saturday, with Mitchel Nelson equalising for Tony Russell’s side in the second half, a result that took the black and ambers to 55 points from their 22 games played, having only lost once in the league all season.

Bay are sixteenth with 20 points from 21 played, a strong run of results since December taking them away from near the bottom of the table under manager John Embery.

Injuries have been a problem for Cray this season with Aaron Rhule still out long term and Michael Power having missed most of the campaign so far, but Sean Roberts and Junior Dadson were both back on the bench for the match at Faversham.

When the sides met at Winch’s Field in October The Wands ran out 2-1 winners with goals from Tom Phipp and Ben Mundele. This weekend’s game looks set to be another tight encounter between two teams in good form looking to keep their runs going.

Season ticket holders for Premier League, Football league and National League teams can watch the game for only £5. The usual prices are £10 and £5 for concessions. Kick off at Hayes Lane is 3pm.
