Cray Wanderers v East Grinstead Town preview

Cray Wanderers return to Bostik League Division One South action at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon when they entertain East Grinstead Town, looking to get back to winning ways.

The Wands unbeaten run of 23 games came to an end at home to league leaders Lewes a fortnight ago losing 2-1 and they then lost by the same score line again away at Herne Bay last weekend.

Tony Russell’s side were missing the suspended Barney Williams, Aaron Rhule and Mitchell Nelson for the loss on the Kent coast, plus they lost Marcus Evans and Charlie MacDonald to injury during the match which will have given the management team a few headaches this week as they prepare the side for the visit of The Wasps from Sussex.

Before his injury the recently arrived MacDonald had put Cray in front from the penalty spot.

East Grinstead travel up on the back of a heavy 8-1 home defeat to Whyteleafe last Saturday which has left them third from bottom with 24 points from 31 games, although the one relegation place already looks to belong to the luckless Shoreham who have been deducted over half their points tally by the league.

The Wasps have only won once this year when they edged Ramsgate 1-0, but have conceded a total of thirteen goals in their last two matches, losing 5-1 to Carshalton Athletic two weeks ago.

When the two sides met at East Court in November Cray ran out 7-0 winners with seven different scorers on target.

With East Grinstead keen not to let that happen again and Cray looking to keep their second place in the table and start another unbeaten run of games this should be another good footballing encounter at The Lane.
