Cray Wanderers v Carshalton Athletic preview

Cray Wanderers take on Carshalton Athletic in an Isthmian League Premier Division match between two play off chasing sides at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon.

The Wands go into the game sitting in sixth place with 47 points from 29 league games, having lost 1-0 last weekend away at Wingate & Finchley.

Neil Smith’s side have won just the once in their last five & drawn twice, which has seen then slip just outside the play off spots, but are still well in contention.

Carshalton also lost last Saturday, going down 2-0 away at Canvey Island, The Robins are eighth in the table with 45 points from 28 matches in their first season under manager Steve McKimm.

They are without a win in their last three, but only eight points separates eighth from leaders Bishop’s Stortford in the table at the moment, which could see some scramble for the top five, with only a third of the season left to play.

When the sides met at Colston Avenue in November the game ended 1-1 with Dan Bassett scoring the opener for Cray and Calvin Ekpiteta equalising for Carshalton.

Last season’s meeting at Hayes Lane in January 2022 saw a dramatic 5-4 win for The Wands, with the lead changing hands three times. Dan Bassett scored a hattrick for The Robins that day, but is now lining up for Cray.

This game looks set to be equally as close as the previous two meetings, with both teams in need of three points to keep in touch with the top five as the campaign starts to heat up.

Entrance for the game is £12 for adults, £6 for concessions, with Bromley FC adult season ticket holders able to watch for £6. There is also an excellent printed programme for £2.

Kick off is at 3pm.
