Cray Wanderers v Bognor Regis Town preview

After the late postponement of Saturday’s scheduled game at Potters Bar Town due to a waterlogged pitch, Cray Wanderers return to Isthmian League Premier Division action when they entertain Bognor Regis Town at Hayes Lane on Wednesday night.

The Wands go into the game on the back of a win and a draw under interim boss Grant Basey as they look to move away from the relegation zone after a difficult first half of the campaign.

In their last outing Cray drew 4-4 at home to play off challengers Enfield Town on the New Year Bank Holiday having led the game 4-2 early in the second half. The Cray goals coming from Chris Dickson, Jamie Yila, Cameron Brodie and an own goal in what was a much improved home performance, this followed a 3-1 win at East Thurrock Utd on 1st January in the management’s first game in charge.

Bognor travel up from the Sussex coast on a difficult run of form, without a win in five, although they have drawn with Enfield & Haringey Borough during that time. They have  had to call off their last two fixtures due to Covid 19 cases, which has left The Rocks in thirteenth place with 27 points from 20 league matches played.

In Bognor’s last match played Jack Pearce’s side lost 2-0 away to in form Lewes and they are fortunately now in a position to field a side again although they still have a number of injury problems.

After the weekend’s results The Wands remain twentieth in the division with 19 points from 21 games, one point behind Brightlingsea Regent who sit above the drop zone.

Since taking over as interim manager Basey has brought in two players in midfielders Stefan Wright from Sevenoaks Town and Luca Albon from Bowers & Pitsea to bolster the squad having lost Andy Drury, Dean Becwick & Fjord Rogers following former manager Danny Kedwell’s departure on 27th December.

The teams haven’t met so far this season and this promises to be a close fought encounter between two sides looking to get a good run of form going to kick start 2022.

Entrance for the game is £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and there is an excellent printed programme for £2, kick off 7.45pm.
