Cray Wanderers 3-3 Haringey Borough

For the second home game in a row Cray Wanderers conceded an injury time goal to lose a lead and drop a vital two points in their quest to avoid relegation, drawing 3-3 with bottom of the table Haringey Borough.

Cray started the game on top pressing from kick off and they went in front on 3 minutes when Frankie Raymond’s corner was powerfully headed home by Tom Bonner at the far post.

Cheered on by their large vocal travelling support Haringey Borough then went close when Walter Figueira crossed for Arthur Iontton who fired over from close range.

With the game wide open Cray then went close twice when George Porter played in Gary Lockyer who hit the bar and Anthony Cook had his effort from the rebound saved by Dillon Barnes in the Borough goal.

The Wands were gifted their second goal on 14 minutes when Porter was pulled back in the box by J’Ardell Stiriling as he ran away from goal and Cook despatched the resulting penalty sending Barnes the wrong way for 2-0.

With Cray on top, Jack Holland had a headed goal ruled out for offside and Lockyer shot narrowly wide from range. Borough created a couple of chances as the half went on, Fugueira and Matthew Young going close, but it was The Wands who extended their lead just before half time when a throw on the right from Cook found Lockyer and he set up Ellis Brown to convert from ten yards out and make it 3-0 at the break.

The second half started with Cook breaking clear and being fouled just as he played in Lockyer who saw his shot blocked in the area.

With the game wide open from there Anthony Mendy fired wide, while Lockyer headed over from a corner for the home side. Porter played in Alfie Evans who was denied by Barnes at the near post and the Borough keeper then brilliantly tipped over a curling effort from Raymond after a short corner routine involving him and Porter.

Cook then played in Lockyer who once again brought out a great save from Barnes. Going into the mid way point of the half Borough rallied for spell, although Cray still created the better chances with Lockyer firing over, before Cook & Lockyer combined to put the ball across the face of goal, which Evans just failed to connect with.

With twelve minutes of normal time left Haringey got a life line when Scott Mitchell headed home from a corner to make it 3-1. Evans was again just unable to connect with a Porter cross at the far postfor The Wands, but from there the visitors did all the pressing for another way back in.

Young fired over for Borough before Nadum Melvin-Lambert headed a second goal from a corner to make it 3-2 dead on 90 minutes.

Then deep into the six added on minutes a long ball up field from Barnes found the home defence flat footed and Anthony Mendy clipped the ball past the advancing Shaun Rowley into the net to make it 3-3 and grab a point for Haringey right at the death, only their ninth of the Isthmian League Premier Division campiagn.

The draw leaves Neil Smith’s side in sixteenth place, just one point off the bottom four ahead of their trip to Hashtag Utd next week.
