Cray Wanderers 2-2 Whitehawk

Cray Wanderers came within seconds of picking up a vital three points only to concede an injury time equaliser to Whitehawk at a chilly Hayes Lane on Wednesday night.

Neil Smith made a few changes of his starting line up following the draw with Dulwich Hamlet last Saturday bringing in Anthony Cook, Cameron Black and George Porter, but still lining up 4-3-2-1.

The visitors started the game on top, Charlie Walker shooting just wide before The Hawks took the lead on 5 minutes when Jack Holland slipped on the edge of his area and Charlie Lambert cashed in on the mistake coolly slotting the ball home past Shaun Rowley from ten yards out.

Ryan Worrall went close from a free kick soon after, before Cray battled their way back into the game.

Yahaya Bamba being fouled by Stefan Wright when breaking clear and Frankie Raymond shooting just over.

Gary Lockyer had a shot saved by Mitch Walker and when George Porter converted the rebound the Linesman flagged him offside.

The Wands continued to press going into the break and after Lockyer had been fouled on the edge of the box, Cook drove his low powerful free kick round the wall and past Walker into the net to make it 1-1 on 40 minutes.

With Cray now on top they went in front during first half injury time when Bamba rode a number of challenges before squaring the ball to Lockyer whose powerful shot from 20 yards was too hot to handle for Walker and went through his gloves into the net to give the home team a 2-1 leaf at the break.

The second half saw Jamie Mascoll go close early on, as Cray pressed again and then Lockyer crossed for Bamba who headed over at the far post.

Lambert went close for The Hawks on a rare break, before Brown saw his powerful effort pushed on to the post by Walker at the other end.

Lockyer was the foil again to set up Porter who hit the bar and as play opened up Worrall had a shot saved by Rowley for the visitors.

With the game going from end to end, Lockyer had a header saved by Walker and then Wright was denied by Rowley as the teams exchanged chances.

With the game becoming more frantic and stretched going into injury time, Cray failed to manage the game and The Hawks grabbed an equaliser when the subs combined as Lloyd Dawes crossed from the right and Ben Pope headed home to grab a point for the Sussex side with a minute of added time left.

The point sees Cray Wands remain seventeenth ahead of their trip to Folkestone Invicta on Saturday.
