Cray Wanderers 2-2 Ramsgate

Cray Wanderers and Ramsgate will have to do it all again on Wednesday night after a 2-2 draw in the FA Cup second qualifying round at Hayes Lane on Sunday afternoon.

The Wands throwing away a two goal lead in the final few minutes of the game as their old striker Joe Taylor notched twice at the death.

The game got off to an open start with Ramsgate going close when Joe Taylor set up Alfie Paxman who fired over, while at the other end Nyren Clunis headed over after good work by Yahya Bamba.

Clunis then set up Bamba who crossed for George Porter, but his header was saved by Tom Halder in The Rams goal.

The visitors had a spell of pressure, before Cray rallied, Lee Lewis setting up Porter who dragged his shot wide of the far post.

Tom Penfold then headed over at a corner, before Ramsgate missed the best chance of the half when Bennie Bioletti sent in a low cross from the right and Zack Jobe somehow side footed wide from close range when unmarked in the area. Bamba, Clunis and Cameron Thompson all went close for The Wands as they had a strong spell going into the break, while Michael West shot over for The Rams.

Injury time saw David Ijaha blaze over from range, hitting the roof of the Glyn Beverley stand, before Lewis had a shot saved by Halder at his near post and Porter headed wide after William Woods and Bamba combined well down the right.

The second half saw the game become ever more open, Shaun Rowley denied Taylor when one on one, while Lewis shot wide after more good work by Clunis.

It was The Wands who made the breakthrough on 59minutes when a Clunis Corner was flicked on by Porter and Bamba headed home  from close range for 1-0.

Cameron Block had a header tipped over soon after, before Cray made it 2-0 on 69 minutes when sub Ellis Brown played in Clunis down the right and the winger drove a low powerful effort past Hadler into the far corner of the net for 2-0.

For ten minutes or so Cray looked comfortable and on their way through to the next round, but that all changed on 86 minutes when Taylor went down in the box and Referee Jack Willmore harshly pointed to the spot.

Taylor tucked the penalty away for 2-1 and the game was wide open again. Inevitably only four minutes later a corner from the right by Paxman found Taylor who had lost his marker at the near post and he flicked his header home to equalise for Ramsgate to send the away fans delirious.

Deep into injury time another soft award saw The Rams have a free kick on the edge of the area, but Cray managed to clear the ball away and ensure there will be a replay on Wednesday night at Southwood Road.
