Cray’s poor run form form continued on Saturday when they were blown away in the second half by an impressive display from play off hopefuls South Park at a blustery Hayes Lane.

The game got off to a quiet start with both teams trying to get the ball down and play on the bumpy well worn pitch, but unable to create chances.

Eventually Park registered a couple of wayward efforts from Ben Senior and Kieran Lavery, while Cray’s best chance fell to Karl Dent whose shot was saved by Callum Thomas after good link up play with Dane Luchford. Late in the half Park began to press higher up the pitch with Lavery having a free kick saved by Nick Blue, while Dent had another shot saved by Thomas,

The second half started with Dent having a shot saved, but from that point the visitors dominated the game. Smith had a low driven free kick saved before they finally got the breakthrough on 49minutes when Lavery set up Daniel Moody who saw his shot deflected off Jai McKinlay and wrong foot Blue as it span into the net.

Tony Russell made two subs to try and spark a response, but they were pegged back further on 61minutes when Park were awarded a penalty for a trip in the box, which was comfortably converted by Lavery. Smith and Moody went close again before the visitors were awarded another penalty on 70minutes when Moody was brought down by Paul Lorraine.

This time Smith stepped up to take the spot kick which he swept past Blue for 3-0. Lavery had a shot saved by Blue following a slip by Lorraine and Ben Senior was also denied by the over worked Wands keeper. Anthony Adesite and Dent went close for The Wands on rare attacks, but Park continued to dominate the final few minutes with Ben King heading over from a corner before the final whistle mercifully came to end Cray’s poor afternoon.

The Wands now have a week to regroup before they travel to Whyteleafe next Saturday hoping to end a run of nine games without a win.
