Cray Valley (PM) vs Lordswood – Preview

F.A. Cup football comes to Eltham on Tuesday night with the Preliminary Round Replay between Cray Valley (PM) and Lordswood.

On Saturday, the two teams drew one all at Martyn Grove. It took the hosts just twelve minutes to go ahead when James Jeffrey found himself clear on goal and made no mistake firing into the bottom corner. However, approaching the half hour mark, parity was restored when two new signings combined.

Dead ball specialist Lyle Della-Verde delivered to the far post and Kyrell Lisbie was on the end of it to finish from close range. After that, both teams had half chances but the two goalkeepers only had saves to make that would have disappointed them at they failed.

Should the replay be level after ninety minutes, extra time will be played and if there is no winner after that, there will be a penalty shoot-out. Whoever wins that will progress to the First Qualifying Round and a visit to Corinthian Casuals or Uxbridge who meet at the latter’s ground on Wednesday evening.

The replay will be the third F.A. Cup game for Lordswood as they entered at the extra preliminary round where they came from behind to see off visitors Egham Town. Manny Williams gave the away team an early lead but Jeffrey levelled just after the fifteen minute point. Artem Kuchkov put the Lords ahead, still before the half hour mark, and there was no further scoring.

They have also had one league game, a six goal thriller. They were two down at half time to goals by Josh Williams and Rodney Eurotor before Ethan Stewart pulled one back five minutes into the second half. Steadman Callender restored the Oystermen’s two goal lead two minutes later. Stewart scored again with thirteen minutes remaining and Josh Reid equalised five minutes before time.

For the Millers, it will be their first competitive home fixture of the season. They have played one league game so far, away to Sittingbourne. Della-Verde put them ahead from the spot midway through the first half and Matthew Vigor made it two immediately after half time.

Josh Osude pulled one back twenty minutes into the second period and when Ayman El-Moghabel equalised with one minute remaining it looked like two points dropped. Substitute Adam Coombes had other ideas, and scored an injury time winner for the Millers.

Both teams have shown that they don’t know when they are beaten so this could turn out to be an intriguing battle.
