Two teams from different Isthmian League divisions meet in the Kent Senior Cup first round when Cray Valley PM host Welling United in a local derby. 

Managers Kevin Lisbie of Cray Valley, and Welling’s Ryan Maxwell will put out competitive sides although league football is their priority. The Wings are currently second in the Isthmian League Premier Division table, behind leaders Enfield Town on goal difference. Although the Millers’ are in eleventh place in the South East Division, they are only two points adrift of the play off zone.

On Saturday, Cray Valley hosted Herne Bay and won comfortably. Chris Dickson converted a penalty midway through the first half and added a second just shy of the hour mark. Bailee Cain scored a third goal six minutes later and the match was won.

Meanwhile, the Wings were in FA Trophy action at home to Chertsey Town. They went behind to a goal scored by Gary Abisogun but the Wings levelled through Lekan Majoyegbe before half time.

After the break, Welling were the dominant side but went behind again to a goal by Wayne Ridgley. However, Majoyegbe again levelled deep into stoppage time. A penalty shoot-out followed and the visitors prevailed with a five-four shoot out win. 

Both managers will take the opportunity to give squad members some playing time. Lisbie has indicated that some youngsters will be given first team action and Maxwell has confirmed he will do likewise to see some of Welling’s academy players participate in adult football and not just training.
