Cray Valley PM 1-0 Bromley

Cray Valley progressed to the next round of the Kent Senior Cup with a 1-0 win over a young Bromley side at The Badgers Sports Ground on Tuesday night, courtesy of a second half goal from former Ravens striker Adam Coombes.

The game got off to an open start with play flowing from end to end, Bromley created the better chances with Mason Bloomfield playing in George Alexander, but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Bloomfield who captained the side played behind the front two and seemed to enjoy the role. Riley Assam had The Millers first chance when he latched on to a poor back pass, but Jordan Olds made a good save.

Alexander turned provider soon after when he played in Soul Kader, but his shot was saved by Chris Lewington. Coombes went close with a free kick against his old side, while at the other end Kader had an effort saved by Lewington.

With the tie wide open Olds made a superb point blank save to deny Assam and then a Marcus Sablier corner was turned just the wrong side of the far post by Dylan Cave for Bromley.

Alexander went close just before the break with a turn and shot from the edge of the area, but on too many occasions The Ravens were guilty of trying to do too much when in possession.

The second half started with Assam having another shot saved by Olds and then Barney Williams crossed for Dan Bennett who volley over the bar.

Kicking down the slope Bromley were caught offside on numerous occassions. The only goal of the game came on 71 minutes when a superb run from Denzel Gayle down the right saw him shoot towards goal and Coombes pounced at the far post to convert from close range for 1-0.

Bromley sub Luke Deslandes had a shot saved soon after, but from there Cray Valley controlled the game, Gayle almost set up Assam for a second goal, but Cave made a superb block to deny him.

Joe Koroma had one wayward effort for The Ravens, but the last chance of the match fell to the home wide when the impressive Gayle set up Bennett who fired over from just inside the box.

In the end one goal was enough to put the Isthmian League Division One South East side through and sent the young Bromley team out of the competition.
