Cray Valley PM 0-1 Welling United

Tom Osel’s goal and Kai McKenzie-Lyle’s saves were the highlights of Welling United’s London Senior Cup victory at Cray Valley (PM).

Airidas Vilinauskas, the Millers goalkeeper, was the first to be called into action when he held Sam Maynard’s volley at the second attempt before Tom Chambers shot wide of the far post.

In the thirteenth minute, Welling went ahead. A free kick fell into the path of Osel and although his initial shot was blocked, it came back out to him and he made no mistake from ten yards out with the follow up.

Chambers had another shooting chance for the Millers and looked to have equalised, but McKenzie-Lyle made an outstanding save before Chambers was again in the right place at the right time but shot wide of the near post.

Dan Bennett sent Adam Coombes away down the right hand side but he was also unable to hit the target before the first half came to a close.

After the interval, the hosts continued to press, and Coombes met a Kershaney Samuels with a glancing header that McKenzie-Lyle saved before Ayo Majek shot off target.

At the other end Osel headed wide from a Medy Elito corner before Cameron Andrews drilled beyond the far post after receiving a short free kick. Andrews was again off target then, at the other end, Denzel Gayle drew a comfortable save out of McKenzie-Lyle.

Substitute David Kamara broke down the right wing for Welling and fired a low shot towards the far post, but Vilinauskas got down to make an excellent diving save to push it away.

Samuels drew a good save out of McKenzie-Lyle and Bennett following up looked certain to score but the Welling goalkeeper made a stunning save at the cost of a corner. Antone Douglas headed wide from Samuels’ delivery.

As the game entered its closing stages Vilinauskas saved at the feet of Palace Francis before another superb McKenzie-Lyle save thwarted the out of luck Chambers.

Kamara drew another fine save out of Vilinauskas and despite six minutes of injury time being played, the Millers could only muster one more effort, a drive from Samuels that went wide.
