Crash ends Doran’s run in Hungary

Liam Doran’s run into the top four of the Hungarian round of the European Rallycross Championship came to a sudden halt when his Citroën DS3 Supercar slammed into a concrete wall in the last lap of the A final.

Monster Energy athlete Doran was embroiled in a battle for fourth place and had just grabbed the position by passing Davy Jeanney and Alexander Hvaal in a single move, when Hvaal counter challenged and Doran’s car crashed off into the wall lining the side of the track.

Doran was taken to hospital for precautionary checks after the crash but discharged later that evening. The crash left him classified sixth in the event and second in the championship in which he is the only driver to have qualified for the A final in each of the four rounds run to date.

Setting top five times throughout the weekend, Doran simultaneously progressed through the event smoothly and continued the ongoing development of his new Citroën Supercar.

“A turbo hose split at the end of the first heat so I lost power there but I love this track and I’m pleased we’ve got the car working well here because if it’s good here it’s going to good most places and we are still learning how to get the best out of it” said Doran before the final.

The Sittingbourne racer has just a few days to recover to full race fitness as he will take part in the Global Rallycross Championship event at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday (June 9) here he will race a Citroën C4 Supercar similar to the one he used to win the X Games last summer.
