Coventry City v Gillingham preview
Coventry City v Gillingham preview

There could be anywhere up to four debuts given as Gillingham head to Coventry City on Saturday afternoon.

Gills boss Steve Lovell has a whole host of options available to him after five new faces came into Priestfield in the last few days of the January transfer window.

However, only four of them will potentially be available with Ricky Holmes currently injured despite joining on loan from Sheffield United.

The signings of Billy King from Dundee United on loan and Preston forward Graham Burke on loan were followed late on Thursday night by Tahvon Campbell coming in on loan from Forest Green Rovers for the remainder of the campaign.

He was followed in the door by Leonardo Da Silva who has joined the club on loan from Wigan Athletic for the rest of the season.

Midfielder Callum Reilly could be back in contention following a muscle strain, but defender Alex Lacey remains sidelined by an ankle problem.

Billy Bingham continues to work his way back to full match fitness and the midfielder is expected to return for next week’s home game against Barnsley.

Meanwhile, there has been some movement out of Priestfield with Josh Parker joining Charlton Athletic on a six month contract, whilst Navid Nasseri has opted to have his contract terminated by mutual consent.

Coventry will again check on midfielder Tom Bayliss ahead of the Sky Bet League One match against The Gills.

Bayliss has been struggling with a heel problem, which saw him miss last weekend’s home defeat by Blackpool.

Zain Westbrooke could again deputise in midfield, while defender Jordan Willis continues to be monitored over an on-going knee problem. Midfielder Abu Ogogo has seen his contract cancelled by mutual consent and subsequently joined Bristol Rovers.

Coventry have won their last four home league matches against Gillingham, a run stretching back to September 2013.

Gillingham have won one of their last 20 away league visits to Coventry (D5 L14), winning 2-1 in February 2002 with goals from Iffy Onuora and Marlon King.

Coventry manager Mark Robins has won all three of his home league matches against Gillingham, beating a different Gills boss each time (Ronnie Jepson, Mark Stimson and Justin Edinburgh).

After losing 0-2 to Blackpool last time out, Coventry are aiming to avoid suffering back-to-back home league defeats for the first time since March 2017 (run of 3).

Gillingham have won three of their last five away league games (L2), as many as their previous 16 combined.
