Compton signs new Kent contract

Kent Cricket have announced that Ben Compton has signed a new three-year contract with the county.

The 31-year-old was awarded Kent Men’s Cap number 223 during the Lunch interval of Day One of Kent vs. Northamptonshire, during Canterbury Cricket Week, after over three standout seasons for the left-handed opening batter so far.

Across all formats, Compton has scored over 4,700 runs for Kent at an average of over 41.00, after making his debut away at Essex in 2022, scoring three centuries in his first three first-class innings.

He will now be a Kent player until at least the end of the 2028 season.

On signing a new three-year contract, Compton said: “Kent has become my home and I’m delighted to further my playing career here.

“The current landscape provides an opportunity for us as a team to strive and push ourselves beyond, towards seeing this prestigious and historic Club return to its former heights.

“I’m excited and fully driven to be a part of that journey.”

Kent’s Director of Cricket, Simon Cook, said: “Compo is an outstanding opening batter and a key part of our squad – his record stands up against any in the country and his ability to bat under pressure and play the game his own way has made him the anchor of an innings on so many occasions for us.

“I’m delighted that he has chosen to stay at Kent for the foreseeable future, as we look to build a playing squad that can compete across all formats.

“He has fully earnt his County Cap and is now one of the senior players in our squad over at least the next three and a half seasons.”
