Kent Cricket have announced that left-handed opener Ben Compton has been awarded Men’s Cap no. 223 during Lunch on Day One of Kent vs. Northamptonshire, part of the 173rd Canterbury Cricket Week.

Compton made his debut for Kent in 2022’s Rothesay County Championship curtain raiser against Essex at Chelmsford – where he would record a new first-class best score – 129 runs opening the batting from 289 deliveries.

Following his exploits at Chelmsford, he scored 104* on home debut against Lancashire at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence – becoming the first men’s player to score two hundreds in their first two first-class innings for the county after Martin van Jaarsveld’s debut in 2005 against Warwickshire.

Since his memorable start to life at Kent, Compton has amassed over 3,500 first-class runs in 48 matches for the county so far, including ten centuries, most recently away at Lancashire in the last round of County Championship fixtures.

He was also a part of the side that won the Metro Bank One Day Cup at Trent Bridge in September 2022.

Compton becomes only the 223rd Capped Men’s Player in the Club’s history since 1870, an accolade awarded to Kent cricketers that have represented the county with distinction.
