Collins wants Sevenoaks progress

Sevenoaks Town face an FA Cup replay against Redhill tonight and boss Micky Collins has challenged his side to make Club history and book a place at Phoenix Sports in the next round.

“Sunday was a frustrating tie,” Collins admitted. “In an away Cup tie you go away from home aiming not to lose. We knew that it would be awkward opposition on a very tricky pitch that we really weren’t sorted to.”

“We got what we expected – we’d had them watched and knew that they would be lively on the break and would be defensively solid. They used their pitch definitely to their advantage, but in honest we didn’t play well – that said, we still had the chances to win the game, but a draw was probably the fairest result.”

“We’ve started the season OK, but we really haven’t got going in the League yet as we’ve played too many Cup games. That said, I love the competition and so do the players – who doesn’t love or want a Cup run for their club?”

“We’ve only ever reached the Second Qualifying Round once in our history and after the draw, both sides will be thinking that they could have a great chance to get through even further. But we won’t think about that until after the replay, but if we can get through, it’ll mean we play Phoenix at their place twice in four days!”

“We’ve got a big week coming up as we face Hastings United at home on Saturday but we’re in the game for weeks and games like this – two games that mean so much to this club. If we turn up and play the way that I know we can on Wednesday night, we certainly can make progress – it’s in our hands!”

Collins will be without both central defenders for the replay – Joe Tennett and Dean Gunner – after both were sent off at Three Bridges on Bank Holiday Monday.

“On the plus side, they’ll both now be back for Hastings,” Collins admitted, “but we will miss them – we’ll have to juggle the pack a bit and see where we go from there. Thankfully, we do have others available who weren’t involved at the weekend, so fingers crossed!”
