Coleman: ‘It’s been a different week for us’

Gillingham head to Meadow Lane for a Friday Night Football encounter with Notts County this weekend, something Ethan Coleman is looking forward to.

The Gills will travel North for their first meeting in Nottingham since October 2014 and will be looking not to be beaten for the third visit in a row, although before those last two visits, the club were unbeaten in six Meadow Lane trips dating back to January 1987.

“It’s been a different week for us,” Coleman admitted to KSN at the briefing this week. “We were off on Tuesday and in on Wednesday and Thursday with the game Friday. There will be a different feel to the game on a Friday night and a lovely ground and we are really looking forward to it. I have played there before for Bromley last year and we drew 1-1!”

“They are doing well at the moment, but we are just one point off the Play Offs and one point behind them. So, if we win, we will go above them which is our aim. The game here was a good game despite the defeat which we could have got something out of the game, so we want to put that right on Friday.”

“It will be massive for us getting a positive result after a bit of a poor performance against Walsall and dropped points and that was on the back of a good performance at MK Dons where we lost!”

“The fresh faces have brought more intensity into training – the new boys are good players and have brought quality and depth into the team. We have got a lot of depth in midfield – me, Shaun (Williams), Tim (Dieng), Laps (George Lapslie), Conor (Mahoney), Jonny (Williams) and Dom (Jeffries) when he is fit! There’s a lot of competition for us as players as we have to be on top of our game all the time!”

“Dom’s injury was tough to take for everyone. I am gutted for him as he had a good run of form up to the injury – disappointed for him but hopefully he will be back on his feet and back on the field soon.”

“I do enjoy the current formation and the base in midfield. Defensive midfield is my position where I can get the ball and go forward with it breaking up play. I have been happy with the way that I’ve played this season, but there’s always room for improvement! I am not going to sit here and say that – we are halfway through the season and long may it continue!”
