The Gills ran out 2-0 winners in their latest pre-season friendly against Colchester United this afternoon.

Goals from Ben Reeves and Jack Tucker ensured that the Gills came back over the Dartford Bridge happy after another solid pre-season workout.

Reeves gave Gillingham the lead with barely 10 minutes on the clock, reacting first to pick up a rebound and fire home.

Jack Tucker made it two in the 81st minute as he struck an excellent effort into the top corner.

The Gills were without Max Ehmer and David Tutonda as they are still following covid isolation protocols.

It meant that new signings Rhys Bennett and Daniel Phillips in the starting eleven following their arrival at the Priestfield on Friday.

There was also a familiar face to Gills fans in the starting eleven as Connor Ogilvie took to the field for some valuable game time. He has been training with the Gills during pre-season whilst he looks to secure a new club, whether that is back with the Gills remains to be seen.

It meant that the Gills players who travelled got valuable game time with six substitutions made at the same time in the 70th minute, as the Gills returned to friendly action.

It also looks likely that Steve Evans will be adding a second keeper to his squad on Monday, with a deal said to be in place for a loan keeper.
